Contemporary architecture meeting and respecting cultural traditions
The municipality of Canela hired ARENA to develop a training facility on a charming and green site, where a cultural community center already works, to possibly host a Team Base Camp for FIFA 2014 Brazil World Cup.
The program consisted of a football pitch, an official running track, a 2,000 spectator capacity stand, an indoor swimming pool and gymnasium, complete gymnastic training facilities, and a restaurant, complete with media and athletes facilities.
The architecture was composed of simple rational and functional solutions using local materials, glass, and wood structural elements, mainly focusing to serve the local community demands with daily activities, including a fully integrated community cultural hall and a traditional barbecue social area.
